Along our life course, we encounter some fateful people. All of them might not stay as our lifelong friends, but they do impact our life direction, and they will stay in our mind all our lives.
To me, all of such huge impact people are my soul mates. In my belief, soul mates are not necessary only applied to our romantic relationship as boyfriends, girlfriends, or spouses. Rather, our soul mates can appear as our family members; like mom or dad, sibling, grandfather. Or in some cases, your business partner. They could be your friends or school teachers. In another cases, they could be even our enemies or competitors whom we hate just because.
So, in my belief, we encounter our different types of soul mates as we live our lives. We cannot predict exact date, situation, or place to meet our soul mates. It happens in a miraculous way.
One day when I was at 5th grade at the elementary school, I was drawn to a poster attached at the wall of the teachers’ room. It was an announcement of a camp sponsored by the Prefecture. The campground was located 3 hours away from my house. The fee was around $300. I thought I was supposed to participate in this camp. I don’t know why, but I remember I felt strong urge to be at the camp.
When I went back home, I mentioned about the camp to my parents. For some reasons, my parents allowed me to participate the camp and paid for the fee, without asking me any questions. Thinking back those days, I still wonder why my parents casually let me go. Because I was the only one student of the school who participated in the camp.
In order to go to the campground, I needed to take the public transportations; trains and buses. I went there all by myself. And of course it was my very first time to go there. I needed to transfer trains and buses here and there. It was a real adventure for me. I still don’t understand why my parents let me go such an adventure. Strange… I would not let my daughter take such a dangerous adventure all by herself.

Anyway, I appreciate my parents to allow me to participate in the camp. I encountered my lifelong friend there. My friend and I never lived very close in physical distance, but we have been always close in our minds. She is an essential part of my life. She has stood by me, cried with me, prayed for me, and laughed with me.
I think the encounter with my lifelong friend happened like a miracle. But deep inside, it might be just reconnecting each other. We might already have promised to reconnect each other in a certain time frame in a certain situation. I think it is a wonderful surprise.
So, let’s cherish every encounter. We run into our soul mates in an unexpected time as a surprise. Life is full of fun.
