Never give up in communicating 11/5/2016

I don’t remember exactly how and when I heard this joke. The speaker told this story as a joke, but not everybody was laughing. The story goes like this.

There was a very old couple. They turned to over 90 years old. The husband had treated his wife very badly, verbally abusing her all their marriage life. All their family members, including their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even relatives had witnessed that. The husband never treated his wife nicely, but the wife always stayed being calm with a gentle smile on her face, all the time.

One day the old couple celebrated their long term marriage life. At the celebration dinner, one of the great-grandchildren asked the great-grandma the reason why she could put up with her husband for his verbal abuse. The great-grandma confessed her little secret helped her to stay calm. And her little secret was….to use his toothbrush for cleaning the bathroom every day all the years….

I am not sharing this story just to scare you. I want to share this story because this story is scary and at the same time, very sad. Our spouse, husband and wife, is supposed to be our best friend and best cheerleader. He/she should not turn to our enemy. In order to avoid to live with an enemy in the same house, let’s have a conversation with our spouse. Let’s respect one another. When we open our heart to one another, and have a good talk, we can find some types of solutions.

I think the sad part of this story is that the couple had both given up to talk to one another, for many years. I believe nobody should suffer like this. I believe everybody has right to have their life happily. In order to make it happen, we should not give up to communicate. I believe good communications will serve us better solutions for our happiness.
