Why Achieving the World Peace is So Critical? 11/30/2016

Have you ever thought the world peace is nothing to do with you? Or, have you ever thought the world peace is something that somebody can work on, but not your job? I used to feel that way. i thought the world peace is the issues or concerns of politicians or other millionaire’s, but not mine. Because I used to think I am just an ordinal human and I cannot do anything radical to change the world.

However, now I have changed my mind. Achieving the world peace is my concern. I can do something radical as long as I keep on doing it. My small efforts toward the world peace might start with a tiny piece, but when it accumulates, it will get bigger and stronger enough to attract more like-minded people to support one another.

I believe if we heal the current situation, we can heal the past at the same time. And this is the way how I can contribute to the world peace.

Let me give you one example.

Suppose if you had a bad memory toward your classmate when you were at the kindergarten. The classmate was always bullying you, saying something mean to you or doing something bad to you. After graduated the kindergarten, you and the bully classmate went to the separate school and had not seen each other for several years.

When you started working for a company, you and the bully classmate reconnected again. She was also the employee of the company. But this time, you noticed the bully classmate have changed her personality completely. She was not a bully anymore. Now she turned to be very nice and kind. You became best friends with her. From that point, she stands by you for any situations, supporting your love relationships or life dreams, and encouraging you when you need. You might remember the bad memory from her of the past, but you will value the current her as your best friend.

This example shows the current situation can heal the past situation. Her current kind attitude have healed your traumatic memory of the past. It is like the Sun gradually melts a hard ice wall.

Same things can be said to other things. Humans have made lots of mistakes in the past. One of such mistakes are wars. Because of the wars, some people still hate other people just because of their nationality or skin color.

When I was in 20s, I was visiting one of my American friends. One day my friend’s relative came by to the house. As soon as the relative saw me, he quickly said he hated Japanese. When my friend asked the relative why he hated Japanese, he answered he read the history of the Pearl Harbor. He started yelling at me, saying that I needed to apologize to him as a representative of the Japanese people for the Attack on Pearl Harbor. This was my first experience that I was treated badly because of my nationality. This person had been bounded by the past.

Most likely, we have encountered so many people saying that “I don’t like the people of certain nationality because of what their ancestors did to my ancestors.” Or, “I don’t like this colored skin people because of their history.” To me, it is sad to see the people who are bounded by the past events.

There is a solution to cut this negative link. The formula is: when we heal the current situation, we can heal the past at the same time.

The same formula can be applied to this situation as the first example of the kindergarteners. When we meet somebody whom we used to hate because of the person’s skin color or nationality, the person represents of the skin colored people and the country. And what if the representing person is very nice and kind to you, would you change your prejudice toward the bigger framed people? I think we all do. When we can heal the current situation, we can heal the past. And most importantly, these actions are up to each of us in our daily life.

When you meet a stranger and you treat the person kindly, your kind action might have changed the person’s attitude toward the group where you belong. For example, in the second example, if I could show my kindness to the relative, then the relative might have a better impression toward Japanese. He might not hate Japanese anymore.

Healing is happening everywhere at every moment.

Through our kind actions on a daily basis, we are constantly healing the encountered people in the current situation as well as their bond to the past. And I truly believe our independent actions matter to change the world.

If we don’t do anything to heal the current situation, we will continue the negative bond to the past to our future generation. I believe now is the best time to heal the current, and the past and the future. We can do it together.
