Garden art 1/11/2017

For these one week, we are enjoying calm weather; spring like warmth and gentle breeze.

My daughter has been working on creating a garden art with using grasses and flowers from our garden. I taught her one basic common sense. Before we take anything from the nature, we first tell the reason and then, ask for a permission from it.

Before my daughter takes anything, she tells the natural product that she is creating a beautiful artwork, and asks it to be a part of her artwork. She puts hand together (Gassho), bows (Ojigi), and says Thank-You (Arigatou) to the natural product. She does this procedure to every single natural product, with respect.

Watching my daughter creating an artwork from the natural products, I thought of my kid’s days. When I was small, I loved visiting my late aunt. Her garden was small but it was full of green grass and colorful flowers. She allowed me to use anything I could find in her garden to make an artwork. I loved doing that. And now my daughter loves doing the same thing.

While watching my daughter, I had a feeling that my late aunt was staying with my daughter, giving her advice on what to pick and where to put. Because my daughter would stay in the garden for long, more than one hour, all smiling and happy.

I feel the healing is taking place in both ways; my daughter heals the nature by showing them her respect and the nature heals my daughter by allowing her to enjoy their beauty. And, not to mention, I am enjoying observing this scene too. It makes me happy.
