Today I was chatting with a Japanese elder woman. After our conversation, I became loving her of her humble life style. I was amazed that she preserves the Japanese traditions even though she has lived in America for more than 60 years.
If somebody asks me to describe about her, one word “humble” really fits her. I think it is awesome. I wish somebody will describe about me in the same way. I would like to live my life in a humble way as she does.

The Japanese traditions that she preserves every day are based on simple and humble life. When I was small, I was told some tips to live simple and happy life by many adults. The tips are to keep clean at the house entrance area. The house entrance is the place where other new energy comes into our house. We want to have nothing but good and pure energy to come in to our house. That is why we keep our house entrance area clean. We sweep dirt off and wipe dust off our entrance area. Our cleaning process is like our prayer for ourselves and our loved ones who live in the house.
Regardless of her old age, she is in a healthy state. She does not take any medications. Her face skin looks shiny with pinkish warmth. I asked her how she could maintain her good health. She said she maintains everything in a moderate amount. Even when she was young, she never went too far in her eating or drinking amount.
I thought this is a great lesson. When we eat something, especially the food that tastes good, we want to have more. If we eat more and more, eventually we cross the border line that we will never appreciate the taste anymore. Overeating will affect each of our organs.
However, if we always eat in a moderate amount, we appreciate the taste of every food that we eat. And each of our organs can function properly.
Maintaining a moderate amount can be applied to everything in a daily life. We can do so for the time for watching a television, the frequency of having a lunch at restaurant, or the time for talking on the phone with your friend. When we keep them at the moderate level, we will never get bored. We can always appreciate them.
