Repairable 5/28/2018

Two week ago, in the morning, we saw smoke coming from the back of the TV monitor. We quickly unplugged the monitor so that the smoke stopped. We were lucky enough to be there. Otherwise, it could have caused a fire on the entire house.

We received this TV monitor as the Christmas gift from my parents-in-law. We have used it for six years or so. It is a 50-inch monitor.

I thought it was not repairable. I thought we would have to buy a new one. When I researched the same type of monitor in online shops, the price was about $500. I was upset about this unexpected expenditure.

My husband stayed calm. He said he might be able to repair it. He has 10-years job experience as a vehicle mechanic, and currently works as an IT guy. He is a professional repair man. I almost forgot about that.

He found the cause of the smoke. There was a burnt mark on the circuit board. We contacted the manufacture and got the information of the required part.

We bought the replacement of the diode. It cost us about $4.00 including shipping fee. Actually the part itself cost $1.00, and the shipping fee cost $3.00.

With the replacement part, my husband fixed the TV monitor.

I was so amazed at his ability. In the past, he fixed our washing machine too.

It is very cost effective to have a professional repair man in my family.
