Back in last year in May, I sent a question to the instructor of the online macrobiotic class. I knew she was very busy, so I had waited for her reply patiently. I didn’t want to disturb her with my email.
For some reason though, yesterday, I had a strong sensation that I should contact her about my question. Something told me she just forgot about it. So I followed my intuition. I emailed her and politely asked her if she has read my last email sent on last May. After I sent the email, I let it go. If she doesn’t reply back to me, I would accept. If she replies back, it would be great. By the time I went to bed, I totally forgot about my email to her.
This morning, I noticed a new email from her. It was a nice surprise, because I didn’t expect to receive her reply this fast.
My intuition was right. My email was completely forgotten because she deals with a high volume of emails and comments in SNS every day. She sincerely apologized for that. She said things finally started calming down for her. Maybe it was the best timing for me to contact her.
She said she checked thoroughly my email and my two-week food diary. Based on that, she gave me some advice and recommendations.
I really appreciate for her sincere reply and advice.

These are her suggestions.
Carbohydrates: to be reduced its intake amount or stop having it in morning and night.
At the time of last May, I had had three meals a day. I had one cup of brown rice in all the three meals. However, since October 1st of 2019, I have started the intermittent fasting (16/8 fasting). Currently I don’t eat breakfast. I still eat one cup of brown rice for dinner, but my dinner time is at four in the afternoon. My instructor agrees with my eating brown rice for dinner because 4 p.m. is considered still in the daytime. She suggested to chew well whenever I eat anything.
Fruits: to reduce the frequency of intake fruits.
–> At the time of last May, I had had fresh fruits after every meal as desert. However, since the incorporation of Nukaduke in July of 2019 into my daily diet, my appetite for fruits gradually has died down. In last autumn and winter, I seldom ate fruits. Currently I have started eating fruits from time to time, because we have entered to our hot summer, but not every meal nor every day.
Breakfast: to have cage-free organic eggs and high quality meats, Goma-Shio, fermented foods
Soup: miso soup with Yang ingredients, soup with Shio-Koji, soup with soy sauce, soup with Umeboshi,
–> Currently I don’t eat breakfast, but I take above recommended foods for lunch or dinner.
Raw vegetable salad: to avoid it when healing diabetes, instead to add some heat for cooking vegetable. Kinpira is recommended.
–> At the time of last May, I had had raw vegetable salad every meal. However, same as fruits intake, since the incorporation of Nukaduke in July of 2019, my appetite for raw vegetable gradually has died down. It has switched to slightly heated vegetables. Unfortunately I cannot purchase Gobo in my area to cook Kinpira. It is sad as I know Gobo is helpful food for diabetes.
Hot soy milk with Kinako, ice cream: to limit the frequency only when I really need it. Add Goma paste or roasted goma in order to add some Yang element. Also, add a pinch of salt to soy milk to add some Yang element.
–> At the time of last May, I had had this drink every day. I don’t drink alcohol beverage nor coffee, so it was my every day treat. I still drink this as my luxury food every day. Interestingly I started adding a pinch of salt to hot soy milk recently. I am going to reduce the intake frequency from every day to twice a week or so.
Cheese: it might be good for the dry air environment
Search for the local fermented food from Yin animal.
Adzuki beans: to eat it more frequently, once to three times a week is recommended. Aduki beans are really helpful to heal diabetes. Purchase it grown in northern part of Japan, if possible.
Soak Adzuki for 30 to 60 minutes and discard the water. Let it soak for overnight. Next day, boil it with some Kombu, dried rason, and Komeame.
–> Up until now, I had had eaten Adzuki twice a month or so. I will follow her advice and take it more frequently.
Chicken: to choose high quality (Yang and tightened one) and reduce the intake amount because chicken can be extremely Yin.
–> I am already cautious of the quality of chicken. If I eat low quality and Yin chicken, I get easily sick and throw up.
Meal time: to make time for not eating for more than 14 hours between dinner and breakfast
–> I have already started the intermittent fasting since Oct 1st of 2019.
Other important information
– Pay attention to the intake rate: take 25% each of protein and carbohydrate
– Consider taking the good balance of 追うもの+採取するもの+人の手によるもの for efficient intake of protein and iron
– Take well-balanced food came from ocean (includes tofu) and mountain
– pay attention of preparation of meats by using Nuka or Hakkosui
– not to take too much dietary fiber
– Be cautious to take Japanese manufactured miso as it can be extreme Yin element

All in all, the conversation with the macrobiotic instructor turned out very progressive. I didn’t notice myself that I have improved my diet since last May, until I read her comments.
Everything is needed for my physical healing. Thank you to the macrobiotic instructor for sparing your precious time for me.
