First step toward Homeschooling 6/16/2020

In my dream of this morning, I was at my dad’s house in Japan visiting him. In the real life, the last time I spoke with my dad on the phone was May 4th. I feel sorry for not calling him, but at least, I visited him in my dream in spirit. I guess it counts.

Yesterday I had a dream of my husband. He was feeling sad and crying. I hugged him and encouraged him. I didn’t tell him about this dream yesterday. Today, my husband took the official test for the computer related certificate. He came back disappointed. He failed at the certificate test. I did exactly same thing as I did in my dream one day prior. I hugged him and encouraged him. It was a clear Deja Vu.

Today my husband and I took the first step toward the homeschooling for our daughter. School session is from August 3rd to May 24. We had two online homeschooling sites available. One was referred by the school principal and the other was referred by one of my daughter’s friend who went through homeschooling in the previous year. As far as we look through their websites, both schools seem to be equally good. Both are state’s approved public school.

So we decided to call each school and feel our intuition based on the customer support representative.

First, we called the homeschooling site refereed by the school principal. A young woman answered the phone. She was not nice or helpful at all. Whatever question we asked, she reluctantly advised us to look through their homepage. Their homepage has a whole bunch of information, but she didn’t walk us through there to go.

Second, we called the homeschooling site referred by my daughter’s friend. A young man answered the phone. He was polite and helpful from the beginning to the end. He answered to each question in a very courteous manner. He walked us through their homepage. His explanation and navigation were easy to follow. We chose this school undisputed.

There were two more points that we liked the second school.

First, the second school starts 2 weeks earlier than the first school. The second school starts on August 3rd, while the first school starts on August 17th. My daughter has been off-school since the first week of March. We want to start the school sooner.

Second, the second school has a system to allow students to skip/escalate to upper grade when they are doing well on their assignments.

I am glad that we took the first step. Now moving to the second step, which is to fill out the information to enroll. It will be a tiresome process. I hope this school will be beneficial for my daughter.
