First Cologuard 8/31/2020

I woke up earlier than usual. Today is Monday, so I set today to take sample of Cologuard and send it out to their lab.

This was prescribed by my doctor. When she mentioned about colon cancer screen, I automatically turned it down as I don’t want to deal with the uncomfortable physical checkup. But when the doctor explained me about Cologuard, I agreed to take the test.

Cologuard is a colon cancer screening test that people can take the sample at home. After the doctor orders the kit, the manufacture will ship to the test kit to the patient home. the patient take the sample and put it back to the prescribed box, and ship it back to their lab by UPS. The test sample should be tested at the lab within 72 hours after the sample was taken.

When I called UPS office for pickup, the operator told me not to keep the package outside. She told me somebody might steal my package without knowing it was the test sample. We just laughed. It would be awkward if somebody steals my package hoping it was something very nice or luxurious. I decided to keep the package inside the house until the UPS driver picked it up.

This was my first time to use their kit and take the colon cancer screening. I hate dealing with anything sickness, hospitals, and doctors. While I was taking sample, even though it was much better than doing it at the hospital, I felt uncomfortable. I thought of my late mom. She often told me exactly the same thing as I think. While she was battling with cancer, she needed to take many tests. I can easily imagine how uncomfortable she felt. I acknowledge her efforts.

I will pay attention to prevent any sickness so that I can avoid hospitals as much as I can.
