I read the news about coins in Japan. The banks will start charging fee for exchanging coins. When you exchange 500 of 1-yen coins, the exchange fee will be 400-yen. I was surprised at the news. When I was in Japan, there was no exchange fee for coins. I could bring a piggy bank that was full of variety coins to a bank.
When I moved to America, I was surprised at the difference. When my husband did the same thing at the bank, they just gave him a pack of coin roll papers. Here, customers have to roll the individual coins by hand and bring the coin rolls to the bank.
I seldom use cash for payment. I almost fully depend on credit cards. With the advanced technology, soon the number of people who are like me will outgrow the number who pay in cash. By the time of my later age on this life, people might not use coins at all for payment. It will be fun to witness the transition of the payment method.
