A variety of work conditions 3/18/2021

My husband’s current workplace has a variety of employment types. Some of their work conditions are normal. They work for their company as the full time conditions with normal benefits. The remainder workers work conditions are not good as the first group. They work for an agency for the first six months or so, depending on the different contract content. These agencies don’t honor the Federal holidays so that the workers have to work without any of compensations. They don’t provide any normal benefits including insurances neither. My husband belongs to the second group that their benefits are not good as the normal companies.

The other day one of my husbands’ coworkers who was tested as Covid-19 positive. All the workers who had a contact with the infected person were required to take the test. My husband was one of them. Thank God he was tested negative. Other coworkers of his was also tested negative. However, his Agency ordered him to stay home and self-quarantine for 14 days. He followed the Agent order. Later on he found out the Agency was not going to pay for the 14-days of his absent from work. It really does not make sense to him. Firstly he was tested negative. Secondly he followed the Agent’s order not to go to work. I feel sorry for him. I personally believe the Agent is wrong. They should pay for the worker’s absent days.  

Today I was talking with one of our neighbors. They are a married couple with a toddler. The man told us that he could not find any good job around this area so that he had no option but to get a job to work separately from his wife and young son. He will work somewhere in Kuwait for three years or so. I feel sorry for him that he would miss all the fun events of his son’s firsts.

These two stories tell how people suffer from Covid-19 and difficulty in finding a good job. I hope everything will turn better for everybody soon.
