After my late dad-in-law’s departure, I have been thinking about a life insurance or some types of insurance that I will be able to leave some money to my daughter upon my departure. After some research in life insurance, I found the Japanese insurance agency that offer several seminar regarding finance. At night at 8 p.m., I attended one of their seminars.
Today’s topic was about the Japanese pension and American social security. What the instructor shared in the seminar was all new to me. I didn’t know most of the information. It was helpful to know that I am qualified to receive the pension from the Japanese government after the age of 65. Previously their rule about the qualification was 25 years. Only for the people who have worked and paid the pension insurance for more than 25 years could receive the pension. They changed the qualification rule in 2017. Now they allow people who have worked and paid for more than 10 years are qualified. It was a good news. Even though the monthly amount is very low, I can receive some money.
Then I noticed I don’t have the pension card with me. I knew I was not qualified, so I left it in my parents’ house. Now I cannot ask my mom to find the card for me, I pondered on what I should do. I asked the seminar instructor for the advice. He told me to contact the pension office. He said not to worry.
After the seminar, I made 2 phone calls. The first one was to the head office and the second one was to the local office. When I heard the second person who picked up my phone who work at the local office, I felt relaxed because of her local Kansai dialect. She told me she would be able to take care of my case. I appreciate her kindness.
I prepared for the necessary documents and sent it to her on the next day.
