Visit of Navajoland -arrival- (1) 5/19/2022

Today was a big day for my family. We visited my mom-in-law in Navajoland. As usual routine, I woke up much earlier than usual, prepared Obento for us so that we can have lunch in the car. We encountered many vehicles traveling the same direction with us. Since it was a graduation season, people traveled to congratulate their family members. We encountered many police cars that caught people for speeding. I drove the majority of the route. I took extra caution on not to speed up. We stopped by a rock store in Holbrook. We all thought of my late dad-in-law. He used to love this store and purchase lots of stones and rocks. We hope he was there with us in spirit and enjoyed looking around his favorite store.

We arrived at my mom-in-law’s house around 5 p.m., in her time 6 p.m. As soon as we parked our car, she came out from the house and came to us. When we hugged her, she was quietly shedding tears.

After we finished unpacking our stuff in the trailer house, we again visited my mom-in-law. We were hungry and I was about to cook dinner. We wanted to know if she already cooked some food for us, which she used to do while my dad-in-law was still alive. When we casually asked her if she cooked some foods for us and if she already ate dinner, she said she didn’t cook anything nor didn’t eat any meals except for a light snack. She said it was because she was all by herself. She doesn’t have anybody to cook meals for or to share foods with. Before she finished saying that, she started crying aloud. She said she has been doing this, all of a sudden crying aloud by herself, very often. She said all of her cats and dogs probably worry about her. I felt sorry for her. And I was thinking of my dad and wondering how he was handling the loneness living all by himself. Our first night we all got emotional.
