Visit of Navajoland – my husband’s cousin’s memorial gathering- (3) 5/21/2022

I slept very well. It is always the same pattern. My sleep is interrupted on the first night but I sleep without any disturbance on the second night. Same as yesterday morning my mom-in-law brought her homemade breakfast sandwich to the trailer house. After the light breakfast, we went for a walk.

My mom-in-law has 5 dogs. One of them is a Chihuahua. This dog was given to my late dad-in-law by his friend one month from his departure. So, this dog became his last gift to his wife. He named him Bucker. Bucker likes to go walk with us. This morning we walked for a long distance and Bucker came with us all excited. We really wished that we could have taken him to our house. On my second thought though, he would not like the new environment. Our back yard is much smaller than what he has right now. We would have to leash him whenever we go walk. And the biggest loss he would have suffered is missing his family; the other 4 dogs whom always run around together. So I guess we would have to wait to have him as our dog until we move back to Navajoland.

In the morning my husband’s cousin and her husband came to our trailer, and we all jumped in her ride to our family graveyard. Her husband was the main person who did all the work to place a brand new gravestone. He dug a hole, mixed a bag of cement with water to make a solid foundation, and placed the gravestone. After the ceremony the cousin invited us to her mom’s house. She served us her homemade Alfred pasta with grilled chicken and garlic bread. It was so yummy because she cooked it from a scratch. We were introduced to her 5 children. After the lunch she and her family went to town. My mom-in-law and her two sisters and my family stayed at the kitchen table. The main speaker was the three sisters. They updated us about their family and neighbors about what is going on. The information was helpful. We all enjoyed our conversation. We all laughed a lot. I am always impressed at their super high level of sense of humor. They are professionals to talk something with their own unique way to make us laugh.

My mom-in-law and I went back to my mom-in-law’s house and continued chatting. All of a sudden the dogs started barking. My mom-in-law said they are barking because somebody was coming to her house. She said she hated somebody visited her without a prior appointment. I told her I would scout for her and check who the visitor was. Depending on the situation, I could have chased the unwanted visitor away. But I didn’t need to chase the visitor away. It was my husband’s cousin and her husband. They purchased lots of daily necessary items such as water bottles, toilet tissues, dog foods, laundry detergents, and hygiene items at the store and brought them for my mom-in-law. It was very nice and supportive of them to support my mom-in-law.

In the evening after dinner, my husband and I visited the cousin at her mom’s house again. One of their children asked about my daughter. I told them my daughter is shy and that was why she stayed home with her grandma. They said they wanted to play with my daughter, we went back home and brought her back to their house with us. They instantly became friends and started playing together. We adults also enjoyed our conversation. We enjoyed having our company so much that we completely forgot about the time. We finally came back home around midnight.
