Solar annular Eclipse 10/14/2023

Our area had the annular solar eclipse from 7:30 am to 11 am. The local community held a eclipse watching party and gave away the special sunglass to watch the sun.

Navajo people have lots of taboos, and one of the taboos is related eclipse. The taboos say Navajos are not supposed to watch eclipse, not supposed to go outside, and not supposed to eat during eclipse. Some Navajos posted that the school students were told to come into the classroom and cover their face on the desk, so that they would not see eclipse by accident.

I personally think they are overreacted. Some of my Navajo friends told me the story based on the eclipse taboo.

Navajo people admire and respect the natural beings. The Sun and the Moon are one of the natural holy beings. The Sun and The Moon love each other, but they cannot see and spend time together often. They can see each other once in a great while, which is during eclipse. Navajo people honored their special dating time. that is how they started the taboo. They don’t watch the Sun and the Moon during eclipse because they honor their special date. They don’t go out because they want to leave themselves alone so that they can enjoy their special time. and they don’t eat during eclipse because they want to celebrate their special time.

I believe my friend, and I think this is their kind thoughts to Sun and Moon.
