A person who doesn’t smile 11/7/2023

Today I needed to take my daughter to the orthodontist’s office. I was reluctant because I knew the orthodontist is not nice or friendly, but I needed to talk to him about my daughter’s orthodontics’ progress.

I asked my husband to deal with him, but he was reluctant to talk with the orthodontist due to the same reason that I have.

As I expected, the orthodontist never smiled at me, kept on having a sulky look on his face. I needed to ask him twice nicely not to get mad at me. He replied back to me saying he was not mad.

After we finished our conversation and the orthodontist left our booth, the nurse told me that the orthodontist was not mad; he is always like that. She told me that he seems to be mad, but that is his ordinal face expression. Interestingly, while the nurse was telling me that, we heard the orthodontist’s angry voice to another client in other booth. It was the proof that what the nurse just said was right and it happened at the right timing. We just laughed together.

It was a good lesson that I still expect people to act what I wish them to be, but I should not expect anybody anything. They are all unique and they don’t belong to me. I have to release my expectation and let things go.

Still not being familiar with the clinic area 11/6/2023

I needed to take my daughter to the orthodontist’s office because one of the brackets on the braces came off. I hoped I would not get lost to get there. Last time I was there was almost two years ago. My husband was the driver and I didn’t pay attention to the direction. Even though I have lived in this area for more than 16 years, I am still not familiar with the location where the orthodontist’s office is located. Luckily, I could arrive without getting lost.

Dealing with bill amount dispute 11/3/2023

I have been dealing with the bill amount issue on the cell phone bill. It has been so frustrating. Even though I have talked with multiple different workers, nobody has solved the issue yet. I happened to see a post in FB where Japanese people posts their daily concerns. One person experienced a bad service just like what I had experienced. Her husband told her “Welcome to America.” The husband mentioned this type of bad service is pretty common in America. We will eventually have to file a complain in BBB that is Better Business Bureau. I hope the company worker will solve the issue so that I don’t need to file a complaint in BBB.

Switched from swamp cooler to heater 11/1/2023

I had a lot of chores in the morning. I needed to receive the delivery item from the online purchase. A maintenance person came to switch the swamp cooler to the heater.

In the evening, I attended the seminar presented by a Japanese realtor from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., then the inner child therapist course seminar from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. My day went by so quickly. I enjoyed the seminars and am satisfied with the progress that I made.

Navajo visit Day-4, meeting with a new medicine man 10/30/2023

We woke up at 6 a.m., which is 5 a.m. in our time, in order to fix breakfast to serve for a medicine man. Our first impression toward the new medicine man was bad, as he was irritated with something on our first sight. After we offered breakfast to him, he started acting and talking normally. We suspect that he was irritated simply because of hunger.

After the lengthy explanation, we found out he is the same as the other medicine men who charge a high amount of fee and request to offer him some valuable materials including Navajo baskets and a buckskin. At the end of the meeting, I asked him if he could work with us by going through only a simple prayer, instead of going through the traditional ceremony that requires expensive fee and materials. Unfortunately his answer was no. I guess we will have to keep looking for the best medicine man for us.

Navajo visit Day-3, 10/29/2023

We went to the flea market in Window Rock around the noon time. We wanted to have mutton stew at the food stand, but their prices shocked us. Just muton stew and fried bread costs $15.

We also visited the zoo. They had a Halloween party. There were many booths where people gave away some candies to kids. It was fun to look around kids’ pretty costumes. This year I’ve seen many sumo wrestler’s and dinosaurs’ costumes. They were cute.
