Making new friends 6/5/2017

Today was the first day for my daughter to attend the summer class. The class is only for four weeks. The age range of participants is from 1st graders to 5th graders.

My daughter was nervous for the first day, but I know she will come back smiling and tell me she had a good day at the end of the day.

I feel it interesting because for these past weeks, every time when my daughter pulled her angel cards asking for some message, she always pulled the card “Make New Friends.”

In my elementary school days, I liked to make new friends. Every time when I participated in something new such as a study group, a play group, or a play troop, it was super easy for me to make new friends.

Everybody gets nervous to meet new people. If you take one step for others by greeting and smiling at them, you are already done the first step to make new friends. You have already broke the ice.

I learned the Japanese term 一期一会 (pronounces as Ichi-go Ichi-e) at the junior high school. This term vividly stayed in my mind. I like this term and the meaning. This term originated from Japanese traditional tea ceremony, 茶道. During the tea ceremony, a host and a guest should treasure the encounter as it may not come again. Every encounter is once in the lifetime chance.
