Recently my family’s night routine is to watch Netflix together for one hour and half before our bed time. Netflix has started showing one Japanese television program called 和風総本家. The English title is set to Japanese Style Originator.
This program shares a variety of Japanese culture. Some of them are familiar with me, while other are new to me. There are some items that are familiar with me but I don’t know the proper name for them. I certainly enjoy watching Japanese scenery and items. It is good for my family to get to know Japanese culture.
This television show makes me think how deep Japanese culture is. Although I was born and raised in Japan, and I thought myself to know enough about Japan, it is obvious that I need to learn more to get to my own country.
Last night’s show introduced us the Japanese traditional way to survive hot summer days. I was amazed how our ancestors have passed down their precious wisdom and technique. They are ecological and kind ways to humans as well as other living creatures.
I think it can be said to any other culture. Just because you are born in a certain race or group, it does not mean you know about your race or group fully. It is always to review and re-learn about your own race and roots.
